My List of AWESOME SONGS

The majority of people like music of some kind. Music has been a part of civilisation for so long that we've become so inseparable from it. (unless your a part of the 4% who has amusia. Learn about it here!)

And so, I'll list some song that I like. Bear in mind that I prefer orchestral music to pop, rock, metal, or other genre (don't ask me why, I really don't know how this happened). Songs I list here won't have any trending song like What Do You Mean, Bang Bang, or whatever song is in now. (I don't follow the trend since I'm not a fan) It does have game and movie soundtracks though.

So here we go! Start with the first one!

Bare Necessities, The Jungle Book 2016 (trailer song)
I love the epicness of this song. It started with what sounds like a happy carefree tone, but become epic halfway through the song. To me, it's like a very pleasant surprise the first time i hear it, and the sudden change make it seems like there's more than what meets the eye in Mowgli's adventure (Can't say if I'm right. I haven't watched the movie.) This song is very satisfying for me, for some reason that i still don't know for sure. This does deserve it's place as one of my favourite.

Baba Yetu - Christopher Tin
I'll start with a fact that this song is The Lord's Prayer in Swahili. Someone once pointed out that the prayer is sung in a language spoken in countries where most of the people are Muslims. (haven't checked if that's true) As a Catholic who lives in a diverse nation, I really appreciate this song. It's a good song though, even before I know what it means. By the way, this song is in the album Calling All Dawns which won a Grammy. It's the first game soundtrack to have won the award. (It's used in Civilization IV)

Legend of Zelda Main Theme - Koji Kondo
I LOVE THIS. Okay, this one is pretty complicated. Legend of Zelda has A LOT of games, each with their own version of the main theme. The notes are the same (at least to my ear. I can't detect differences in what scale is used), but they all have different arrangements. This song just spells the epicness of Link's adventure (although I still don't understand what's the deal with Zelda always getting in trouble...). And the way it took some time for me to process the notes in my head, (I wish I could describe how mind blowing this is. I have hearing skills that work in a weird way) I just love this song!

Kingdom Hearts II: Working Together - Yoko Shimomura
This list wouldn't be complete without a song from my favourite game series. Kingdom Hearts, where somehow Mickey and Cloud fight on the same side. Some people think it's childish because there's Disney in it, but I can assure you that even though this is nothing like games nowadays with more mature storyline, Kingdom Hearts has many lessons to offer. This song is Twilight Town (Sora) battle theme. I like the upbeat rhythm that it has. I can really enjoy this song. Even though Kingdom Hearts has many more good soundtracks like Twilight Town, Roxas' Theme, Hand in Hand, and many more, this one is on my super picky music folder, so that speaks something. One version that I like is Project Destati's arangement. I really think that the variation fits well in the song. Aside from the tone, I like the title. "Working Together" reminds me of the friendship between Sora, Riku, Kairi, Donald, and Goofy, how they all work towards the same goal with everyone playing different parts that contributes to the bigger system. Okay, I should stop before I say too much.

Tonari no Totoro - Joe Hisaishi
Ghibli soundtrack is awesome! It's really hard for me to pick one since I really like Ghibli soundtracks, but I think Totoro is pretty representative here, partly because Totoro is Ghibli's mascot. I like this song ever since I first hear it. I once know it's lyrics in Mandarin! (I forgot most of it now) I still know the lyrics in Japanese though. This song is like a childhood song, despite me first watching the movie in eleventh grade. I heard the thing way earlier though, and I know how much this movie means to children who grew up watching and loving Ghibli. This song is cute and magical in the same time, I have to pick it out of many other amazing songs.

Song of the Sea: Lullaby - Nolwenn Leroy
This song is so innocent I can't help but love it. The song really speaks how innocent and amazing Song of the Sea is. Songs like this are hard to find, since most songs are about romantic love, and even more mature stuffs. (I'm not going to bluntly mention it) The instruments in this song is pretty and Irish, just like the movie itself. It doesn't have that many thing to love, but what it has is enough to made it into my picky list of good songs. Simple and beautiful.

Norwegian Pirate - Two Steps From Hell
One of my favourite composers! TSFH has made many songs, some I don't really like, but some I really love. I was totally in love with this song two years ago when I first found it. I just love how epic this song is. I can totally imagine a ship fight while this song plays and I don't do that to every song I hear. A pirate ship approaching under a dark sky, cannons firing... Epic song calls for an epic scene. I love how this song really gives me this battle mood. FIRE THE CANNONS!

The Periodic Table Song - ASAP Science
Just me being the nerd that I am. I LOVE THIS SONG. I MEMORISED IT HALFWAY THROUGH PROUDLY! Ehm, pardon my excitement. Seriously, this song is so awesome and catchy. We thank you, ASAP Sciene, for making chemistry a tad bit better. (maybe a lot, if you're not me.) This song also get a thumbs up for the sound, music, and graphics. It's awesome. Period.(ic table)

We Wish You a Merry Christmas Hetalia Version - Katsuyuki Konishi, Noriaki Sugiyama, Yuki Kaida, Onosaka Masaya, Yasuhiro Takato
Finally, let's end this playlist with a trip to the anime world! I'm not an otaku, but as a sister of two otakus and a friend of some, I know some stuff here and there. Hetalia is one series that I will admit to liking, except for the sixth season, because it's just so.... ugh..... I do like Hetalia for its humor and diversity. As with many anime series, Hetalia has their seiyuu (voice actors) sing songs as their characters. Among many, I pick this song as I like Christmas holiday and I like Hetalia. Besides, it also makes a very interesting Christmas card. (I put the lyrics on cards for my Hetalia loving friends)

There ya go, a list of song that one with picky ears like me can love. I don't put numbers because I can't really rank them without spending a whole week reflecting on how much I love each song. Take your time and listen to all of them The titles will lead you to the song. Sit back, enjoy, and have a sip of your favourite drink or two. Or just do whatever you want. Well then, see ya!
